Practical PhD is the creation of Dr. Zawadi
Rucks-Ahidiana a sociologist
and Assistant Professor at SUNY Albany. After years of receiving email
requests from undergraduate and graduate students alike on whether to apply to
graduate school, how to get through qualifying exams, what non-academic
research jobs are like, how to apply for non-academic and tenure track jobs,
and other questions, she decided to create a resource for advice and insight to
make the PhD process more transparent from start to finish and beyond.
The blog chronicles my PhD process mostly by sharing tips I’ve learned along the way. It began as an outlet while I was trying to finish my PhD and now, as I transition into my first position, I will continue to blog about graduate school advice, my research, and my life on the track.
